The MZ32 series surge suppression series is used as a surge peak current suppression in high-power switching circuits to protect power devices and filter capacitors.
High-capacity capacitors are used in various power lines to smoothly filter the rectified DC voltage. If it is discharged during startup, a short circuit will occur, which will affect the rectifier and power cord. Some inductive loads, such as large transformers or motors, can also generate excessively high inrush currents. The bad case is that the extremely high inrush current may damage the rectifier or blow the fuse of the power supply.
In addition to the inrush current, another danger manifests itself in the continuous high current or the short circuit of the equipment. Usually, this risk mainly comes from defective loop capacitors or power semiconductor devices. With the MZ32 series PTC thermistor, the above risk sources can be eliminated. Different from the negative temperature coefficient impulse current limiter, the positive temperature coefficient thermistor has a positive temperature characteristic, that is, the resistance at normal temperature is low. The increase in current will gradually increase the temperature of the PTC thermistor, causing it to enter a high resistance state, thereby limiting the current. These ceramic parts are like self-resetting fuses: once the current surge subsides, the temperature of the resistor will decrease
